Case Study: Israeli Ministry of Health
Israeli Ministry of Health Now Protected

The Organization
The Israeli Ministry of Health is the governmental organization entrusted with public health issues relating to people, food and drugs. The Ministry's activities are carried out by several districts, of which the Central District is geographically the largest. The Central District is responsible for business licensing, water inspection, operating of infant welfare centers, food and pharmaceutical inspection among other public health issues. Clearly, the Israeli Health Ministry is responsible for issues that require taking appropriate measures in order to prevent data leakage, theft or loss.

The Challenge
As a governmental organization, the Israeli Ministry of Health is obligated to act under the Israeli laws which regulate privacy, confidentiality and security. As the Central District deals with sensitive issues involving national security classifications, such as water reserve and national emergency policies, data integrity is of even more importance. With the growing use of portable media such as USB memory sticks within the organization, the Central District needed to protect itself against sensitive data leaking out via these devices. The Solution Moshe Dvora, IT Manager for the Israeli Ministry of Health, Central District, evaluated several endpoint security solutions before choosing Safend as the clear winner. The Ministry purchased 300 licenses of both Safend Protector, which protects confidential data stored on organizationsí endpoints from loss or theft, and nearly that many of Safend Reporter, a data analysis tool that helps facilitate compliance with regulatory standards.
Safend was primarily selected for its flexibility and granularity in securing confidential data without decreasing productivity or creating a burden on users. Dvora also praises Safendís user-friendly interface and the solutionís ease-of-use and fast time-to-deployment, as well as Safend Reporterís comprehensive reporting and logging features. Dvora also remarked that the personal attention the Ministry received from Safend was unsurpassed - from initialdemonstration through deployment.

The Results
Today, the Israeli Ministry of Health is happy to report that not only has it had no data security incidents, but it has also been able to thwart attempted data breaches. Additionally, Dvora and his team are securing against more than just USB devices and are using Safend to protect against external hard drives and modems. “The level of security we now have with Safend is unprecedented”, said Dvora. “We are able to enforce security policies and only allow the use of authorized devices. The solution even sends us immediate alerts on users trying to connect to our endpoints with unauthorized devices. The Safend solution also enforces encryption of portable devices, including external hard drives, providing us with an additional layer of protection.”

In Conclusion

“We are confident that we have complete control of all our endpoints and who can access them while resting assured that we are adhering to all Israeli laws concerning data security. We have not experienced any data breaches or data leakage incidents, and several breach attempts were discovered and prevented. With Safend, we have the best solution that exceeds our expectations”
