Overview

Information has recently been released about Meltdown and Spectre attacks on the CPU layer of operating systems like Microsoft Windows, Linux, and Apple macOS. Threatening desktops, laptops, mobile devices and cloud servers, Meltdown and Spectre do the following:

  • Meltdown, compromises personal data like passwords and pictures.
  • Spectre, violates memory isolation by tricking the CPU into performing instructions that are not required.

Microsoft Protection

In January 2018 Microsoft issued security patches for Windows platforms which implement new KB4072699 requirements that target the delivery of the patches to ensure that security and anti-malware software is compatible.

Safend DPS Against Meltdown and Spectre

Safend DPS is not threatened by Meltdown and Spectre. Following our tests, the Microsoft patch does not affect the Safend 3.4.9 SP2 Client or previous versions. We highly recommend testing the patch in a non-production environment before its deployment.
